The decision to build a new winery is in line with the values that have been the pillars of the company since its inception: the vocation to make great quality wines and a belief in experimentation and innovation. It is also the culmination of a century-long love story between the family who owns the company and the Empordà region.
The process of designing the new winery began when the Suqué-Mateu family - owners of Perelada – put its trust in the intuition of architects, RCR, and the purity of their architecture, based on respect for the preexisting landscape and an emphasis on the emotional and experiential aspects of the resulting space.
The new Perelada Winery, is the first in Europe to have the LEED® BD + C environmental and energy certification, developed by the US Green Building Council, that will certify the sustainability and high efficiency of its design and construction.
The new facilities have the capacity to handle 2,700,000 kg of grapes and to produce about 1,900,000 litres of wine and 2,240,000 bottles. At the same time as the production, the focus is on the sharing of wine of wine culture and sales of the product, turning the winery into an iconic wine tourism destination providing tastings, tours and other attractions.
